The 3rd HAIPOU JADONANG Memorial Football Tournament is being organised by Zeliangrong Naga Community Pune at Spicer University ground from 26th Oct 2022 to 28th Oct 2022.
The organisers of this prestigious Football Tournament would like to present here a brief life sketch of Late Haipou Jadonang, the legendary freedom fighter.
HAIPOU JADONANG was a visionary & legendary Freedom fighter belonging to the Zeliangrong Naga community of present Northeastern state of Manipur. He was born in 1905 at Puilon village under present day Tamenglong district of Manipur State. From a very young age, Haipou Jadonang led a rebellious movement against the mighty British rule to restore self-rule by natives of the Zeliangrong country.
Subsequently, HAIPOU JADONANG was arrested by the Britishers, jailed and executed by the Britishers by hanging on 29th Aug.1931 at Imphal Jail (Manipur).
Thus, Haipou Jadonang’s freedom movement against the British imperialist was nibbed in the bud by sentencing him to death.
The Zeliangrong Naga Community of Pune therefore in remembrance of Haipou Jadonang’s Supreme sacrifice for his people, is organising this football Tournament as an annual event to commemorate the Supreme sacrifice made by the legendary freedom fighter.
Through this football tournament, the Zeliangrong Naga community of Pune envisage & undertake to encourage & promote the underprivileged football players & budding talents, especially from the Northeastern regions by giving them a platform through which the young talents can be moulded & trained into excellent players of national & international repute.
This prestigious Football Tournament was held for the first time in 2019, October 28th-31st , however it was kept on hold in view of Covid-19 pandemic. Now with Covid restrictions being lifted & situation back to normal, we decided to resume the football tournament this year where the organisers have received tremendous response from numerous Football teams/clubs belonging to NE states that have shown keen interest to register for this great football event.
This upcoming Football tournament being a big event also has a big budgetary involvement of about 3.00 lakhs which includes the prize money, ground charges & other overhead expenses.
Therefore, the organisers of this tournament would like to make a humble appeal to all the well-wishers, friends & members to be a part of this upcoming football event by contributing/donating generously towards the TOURNAMENT FUND.
